Art matters. Music matters. Songwriting matters. At Slowpoke, we’ve always tried to be place where artists can take a chance, play before an audience interested in their music, in their poetry, in their songs. Perhaps our biggest inspiration for this has been the Spring Green Musician in Residence Program.
The Spring Green Musician in Residence Program was born out of one goal: To support musicians' creative time with both funds and inspiration. As a bonus, our community gets to know and collaborate with some really great musicians. The Residency invites new applications each year and selects a musician to live as a member of the community for two weeks. A stipend and lodging is provided through Residency funds (and some generous lodging discounts from community members). The Residency is the musician's time to work on their music and projects, and play a few shows. A centerpiece of the Residency is a collaboration with the community that feeds their music career. You may have seen videos or paintings, or maybe participated in a songwriting workshop in past years. The Residency is run by local volunteers and is funded entirely by small grants and the generosity of music fans. Without community financial support, engagement and enthusiasm, this project would not be possible.
Please join us for this special fundraiser, with special guests Sugar Mama and the Rent Check. Playing a mix of funk, soul and rock 'n roll, Sugar Mama and the Rent Check are a Spring Green-based band featuring Laura Burbaugh on vocals, Ellie Barta-Moran on vocals, killer tambourine and guitar, Todd Miller on lead guitar, John Christensen on vocals and keyboard, Tim Gittings on bass and harmonica, and Rob Steffen on drums
