Black Lives Matter
There are those who have advised us against using these words on our website. That we will lose customers. So be it.
For too long in this country, too many of those with power and authority have treated Black Americans as if their lives did not matter. Have believed they must treat all Black Americans as if they are dangerous. That they can be damaged with impunity. Without consequence. It is, without hyperbole, the least we can do to insist on a country where Black Men, Women, and Children can go about their lives without fearing for their bodies.
The least we can do.
We are just a tavern. We don’t pretend to be a vehicle for change, or to take actions against an unjust world. But there are those of you who care to know what we believe. What we stand for.
We stand for love. We stand for listening, really listening, with care and compassion. We stand for accountability from our leaders, from those we have endowed with OUR authority. We stand for justice. We stand for equal protection under the law. All the time. Not just when others are looking or when we get caught. All the time. We stand not just for the right to vote but for making voting easy, accessible, and fair. We stand for learning from everything we see and hear. We stand for the courage to change.
We stand against those who lead with fear.
We stand with those who lead with love.
