There have been many articles and even books written on what happened after General Motors closed its plant in Janesville, Wisconsin in 2008 after some 90 years of operation. Here, for the first time, former Wisconsin state senator—and Janesville native—TIM CULLEN tells the inside story of how and why it happened, and what it means for the future not only of Janesville, but cities across America.

SUMNER MATTESON has worked as a nongame biologist, conservation biologist, and avian ecologist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources since 1981. He has authored and co-authored many papers and reports on nongame birds, and for 25 years led the successful effort to restore trumpeter swans to Wisconsin. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he is a past president of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology. His longtime interest in the history of Wisconsin conservation and in those interested in natural history study led to his development of the Wisconsin Naturalists Project, which resulted in this first volume.

The Making of a Field Hippie by JOE MIRENNA is a coming of age tale providing insight into the Back-to-the-Land movement of the 1970s. Written with self-deprecating humor and vivid description, the memoir reads like a novel.

Award-winning columnist ROB ZALESKI chronicles his 17 no-holds-barred interviews with Ed Garvey, former head of the NFL Players' Union and passionate leader of the progressive political movement in Wisconsin.
